Chris Hadley is a performer, composer, and sound artist based in Los Angeles, CA. He holds degrees in percussion performance from Southern Methodist University and Stony Brook University, where he focused on new music performance and improvisation. In 2022 he completed a PhD in Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology at the University of California at Irvine.
As a performer/composer, Chris’s musical work incorporates handmade percussion and electronic instruments, reactive computer code, and compositional improvisation systems to organize performances through an emphasis on embodied interactions with a sonic environment. His research interests interrogate such improvisational creativity between persons and things as an example of embodied cognition, in which musical forms take shape through complex interactions within a musical ecology.
